Nook Tablet - First Impression
The tablet wars will be tough for existing companys after arrival of Barnes & Noble's $249 colour evice called Nook Tablet.
William Lynch, the company's chief executive says they set the new Nook directly against Amazon's recently announced Kindle Fire.
"the Kinddle Fire, and they do a lot of things well, is a vending machine for Amazon services, "Lynch said. "We are going to partner with the worl's most popular music services. We are going to let the consumers choose."
The new tablet Nook is lighter and faster then other Nook devices, offers access to popular apps including Netflix, Hulu Plus and Pandora. It will be available in stores next week.
Barnes & Noble also announced that it would lower prices on its other Nook devices. The price of a Nook Simple Touch, a black-and-white touch-screen e-reader, was lowere to $99 from $139. The original Nook Color, a tablet with a 7-inch color screen, is now $19 instead of $249. Also this device have no ads that interrupt the reading experiences.
Barnes & noble's revenue for its Nook devices will reach $1.8 billion this year, Lynch said, and the bookseller believes it currently has 27% of the e-book market.
